Red Scarf Girl (Chapter 5) First Draft Ji-li was very sad after she heard about her family background from her parents and was also depressed on being accused for being an xenophile. (a person who is not agreeing to the communist party). Then one fine day when Ji-li was walking through the hallway, she met her old homeroom teacher. Whose name was Teacher Gu was walking past her. Suddenly Ji-li said good-morning to Teacher Gu and looked around to see if anyone was there. Then she waited for Teacher Gu to reply. During this time Ji-li watched cautiously around, because if anyone sees her talking with teachers they would accuse her for doing the four olds. Teacher Gu was surprised what Ji-li had just said. Then after a few minutes she replied good morning back to Ji-li. At first Ji-li and Teacher Gu were not saying anything and there was silence. And this silence was broken by teacher Gu saying that “all the teacher’s have decided to put Ji-li in after graduation, in the best junior high school in china known as (Shi-yi junior high school).” And she also said that don’t be sad anymore because she had told Ji-li the happiest thing that Ji-li would have to listen. But soon Ji-li got nervous and asked Teacher Gu what about Ji-li’s best friend An-yi? Teacher Gu replied that she was also going to go to the same junior high school and that made Ji-li very happy after all that sadness. And Ji-li ran to An-yi’s house because An-yi had an asthma attack and couldn’t come to school, to tell her the good news that they were graduated to the best junior high school. Listening to that news, An-yi got really excited and got recovered really quickly. The day after she was recovered they went shopping for their new stuff that they will need for their new junior high school. They went to buy their new lunch box, pencil case, school bag and other stationeries. So while they walked back to their houses they showed off and everybody thought that they were going to a very good Junior high school.
